The Collector combines a couple of different genres to create something quite special. If you don’t care about special, then you’re still going to love just how entertaining a ride this film proves to be. Everything starts with a desperate man Arkin making plans to rob a wealthy family with whom he enjoys a friendly working relationship.

It might not be the best movie in the franchise, but it delivers some pretty effective home invasion scares. The Dark Hours
Home Invasion has long been a sub-genre predominantly installed within the horror category and rightfully so. Home invasion occurs when someone unlawfully gains entry to a private dwelling in order to commit a violation upon the resident. Two low-life punks invite themselves to a party at a posh villa and after being taunted by their snobbish hosts, hold everyone hostage and subject them to various forms of torture and mayhem.
Arkin quickly discovers that he’s not the only one breaking into the home that night — and the other intruder has far worse intentions. The Collector was initially pitched as a prequel in the Saw franchise, and it’s easy to see the similarities between the two. As in Jigsaw, this cunning killer sets elaborate traps for his prey — the difference, however, is that he doesn’t intend to teach them any lessons or offer a chance at survival. The death scenes are certainly unique and brutal — best suited for those who can stomach splatter films. While most of the movies on this list focus on villains breaking into a home, in the 1977 exploitation favorite Death Game, they are invited in.
Gradually the scenario becomes more and more terrifying as the phone line is cut and the man appears to be omniscient as to Julia’s actions. Julia’s charges are abducted and she is narrowly able to escape with her life. Five years later she is a college student living with the trauma of the home invasion. In a couple of scenes the assailants come face to face with their targets and takes advantage of their young age to escape from being overpowered physically. It was marketed as a film based on a true event and found acceptance from the audiences and critics alike. Now we don’t know what would really happen if something like that actually happens to us, and we wouldn’t really want to know. But in the movies, homes turn into battlegrounds where everyone is tested on how far they would go to protect the place they call home.
Much of the scene is shot from the POV of the husband, as he watches his wife raped in front of him. However, the brilliance of Kubrick’s film is that, despite scenes such as these, by the end of the film Alex becomes a sympathetic figure. Starring Dylan Minnette from ‘13 Reasons Why‘, this movie tells the story of a young boy, Logan, who moves into a new house with his mother after the death of his father in a car accident. But strange things start happening inside the house which initially seems exciting to them. But soon, everything starts to amplify and the presence in the home makes them question their own sanity.
